Y-ROC is a measure of wellbeing outcomes designed especially for young people. It is a facilitated self-assessment tool designed to structure a conversation around 12 indicators of wellbeing that are linked to recovery.
Y-ROC is based on the HOPE framework for recovery. The 4 sections of HOPE are divided into 12 indicators of well-being. Y-ROC consists of 12 questions, 1 for each of the indicators.
- Home (a safe and secure place to be): life skills, mental wellbeing, safety & comfort
- Opportunity (to pursue meaningful leisure, recreation, education and work possibilities): activity & exercise, physical health, meaningful activity
- People (as friends, confidantes and supporters): personal network, social community, valuing myself
- Empowerment (fully involved in decisions affecting own life): participation & control, self management, hope for the future
Who is Y-ROC for?
Y-ROC is principally designed for use by young people who may have been experiencing a range of difficulties with their mental health and wellbeing. The indicators however relate to well-being and are therefore relevant for everybody. Y-ROC can be used by anyone.

When should I ask the questions?
Y-ROC should be completed as soon as reasonably practical when you begin working with someone as:
- It creates a baseline for measuring recovery.
- It identifies areas that may be particularly important to focus on.
- It gives a start point for personal planning.
Ideally these questions should be reviewed every three months.
